Chapter 5

Derek got home that night, unable to believe his good fortune, if one could coin it as such. He had actually kidnapped Lucy once, and had been chased out of hiding in the process. He was not sure how easily that could be done now, especially now that she has been put on her guard. But even more important was this Violet person. She had intimated that Lucy was a threat to her marriage and her life. Now he was no Albert Einstein, but that must have something to do with Wes. He now began to wonder if she was a normal woman after all, or an animal like he was. He had never known Wes to be courting anyone so his instincts lingered on the latter.

He got home that night and went straight into his basement. Since the onslaught, he had retreated to the basement of his home, until he could find somewhere more appropriate from which to operate. He opened the basement door and made his way to the numerous screens that sat idle while he was away. Every now and again he would check the cameras for the daily proceedings of his home. as usual the camera caught his daughter traipsing with her boyfriend; he didn’t bother her because she was an only child and it was a big property after all-she was more than likely lonely and he hardly spent any time with her because of his job. He thus gave her a lot of room, but more than she knew he kept his eyes on her. This boy didn’t seem like trouble; from what he could see they mostly did teenage stuff like watching movies and goofing around. He switched the cameras and realized that there had not been any odd activity lately at all. He sighed with relief. He didn’t like to operate from home because there was always the risk of discovery and he didn’t want to throw his family in harm’s way, so he was working fervently to create another fort elsewhere.

He turned his attention on the new project that had him all excited. He had been working on a way to track the wolves, or even to be able to detect them still, even in their human form. He had figured since they were animals, and close families with the dogs, then maybe he could create a device that would resemble a dog whistle; it could only affect the hearing of the wolves. For this purpose, he had bought two wolf cubs from an international company and had them here in cages in his basement. He would keep testing the devices until they showed some reaction. Perhaps he would need them in greater dosages since the wolves would be bigger, but all he needed was a plan that worked.

He had been quiet of late because of his diligence. Only once did he come upon a situation where he could implicate the Kaio. Sure he would have to kill someone in the process, but now the authorities were scratching their heads about the possible killer.
